Station-keeping practice mission

Post by Silk » Thu Mar 31, 2016 1:45 pm

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I have copied one of the PWCG missions I got recently that was designed as an intercept flight but does marvellously as a practice mission for formation flying as it basically sends three AI Lagg-3's around a course and lets the player practice formation flying and station-keeping, etc (for some reason the LW planes that you're supposed to intercept haven't ever shown up when I've run it - not that I'm complaining as it makes it useful for practice).

If anyone wants a copy of it or thinks that it may potentially be of use to other new pilots of similar (in)experience to mine, just let me know and I'll try to make it available somewhere.

I'd like a gander, Silk!

[At the moment, I use "Box.com" to host files for download. It offers its services at that hard to beat price of free, although it'd be nice if some time in the future this forum could host mission files (perhaps just the .misbin file - which is the one your game downloads from an MP host when you log onto his server).]

Going to try Box.com - as it's free it would be rude not to...

Try this and let me know if it works pls

If I were a little more confident in the Mission Builder usage I would strip out a lot of the extraneous stuff, but I guess the upside is that leaving it in will also let me practice spotting enemy units once I get more confident in the station-keeping part.

You start as the #4 ship in the formation btw - and takeoff is set to "from runway with engine running" - you can set your own realism settings.

It seems PGCW missions are a little complicated:

=))

Not only that, many (perhaps most) of the seemingly single MCUs are actually stacks of MCUs and groups within groups concealed in the stacks...
Not only that, he seems to have used some "Advanced..." MCUs that I don't think we have access to...
Silk, I'm not saying I won't find the answer, but it may take some time - at least until the headaches start going away! :D

Indeed - I took a gander in the mission builder and promptly decided that discretion was the better part of valour. On the bright side, I don't believe I actually asked a question about this that needs an answer - just mentioned that it served an unintended purpose :)

Of course it would be cool to find out what everything really does, but I suspect that what we may actually have is some form of template here that only certain bits of it get activated for a given mission profile. That would certainly be one explanation for the sheer volume of components.

To get to know how things work take a look at the TP groups that Prangster made. The 2 ship Yak1 group is stripped right down.
Trigger to detect incomming 》activates the aircraft and one waypoint 》sets the target area to look for something to attack. Boom tish.
